Please feel free to visit the PRIVATE COACHING page to view the differences about the various coaching tiers. With ALL coaching tiers, athletes are free to swap between tiers at any time. As with any private coaching relationship, there are no contracts or minimum commitments.
BRONZE (lite) – Athletes receive a monthly training plan uploaded to Final Surge but interaction with your coach is limited to the initial Assessment. You are able to upload training data and record workout notes to your Final Surge training log but ongoing access via email or phone is excluded. If you feel like you need help organizing your goals and refining your training but are confident managing and executing a training program on your own, Bronze is the tier for you. If you feel like you may require a more hands-on approach, consider the SILVER tier.
SILVER (standard) – Silver is by-far the most popular tier offered. All of the features of the Bronze tier are included with Silver with two big exceptions – athletes are offered access to ask questions and advice via email or in-app messaging within Final Surge on an ongoing basis. With Silver, you are free to send as many as 3 emails per week with unlimited in-app messaging. Silver also includes your pre-race preparation and race-day strategy i.e. a mile by mile approach to your race course.
GOLD (premium) – The big advantage to the Gold tier above what is already offered in Bronze and Silver: two 30-minute conference or video calls each month to discuss progress, scheduling and refine training on an ongoing basis. A truly hands on approach!

If a Pacing coaching session is missed or canceled with less than 24 hours notice, the cost of the session will be charged. While sympathetic to busy schedules, GB Running is unable to absorb the financial responsibility of late cancellations. In fairness to all clients, this policy is in effect regardless of the reason for the cancellation. You acknowledge that you have read and understand the cancellation policy for GB Running, LLC as described above. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Unfortunately, no. We have very little ultra running/racing experience and, therefore, prefer to focus our attention on the distances and race types for which we have extensive training, knowledge and experience. Given that criteria, we focus on preparation for the marathon distance and below. Because there are so many nuances relevant to the ultra distance races, we feel you would be better served with a coaching staff focused intently (if not exclusively) on these distances as both an athlete and a coach themselves. Good luck – ultras are an amazing achievement.
Private Coaching Services are prorated for the first month of coaching only. In subsequent months, the method of payment will be charged on the first calendar day of the month until Private Coaching Services are cancelled in writing. The first payment is due on the activation date of Coaching Services.
Please feel free to send a message via the CONTACT page or via email with questions. In fact, if you prefer to speak, in advance of the formal start of any coaching package, we can arrange a brief call (at no cost) to do so. Furthermore, if we are not the right match for your coaching needs, perhaps we could recommend you to another coach in the area? Looking forward to hearing from you.
Absolutely. We work with runners at the back, middle and front of the pack and have done so for several years. If you are goal-oriented and committed to your training then we are here to help, no matter your pace. Ideally, at a minimum, runners should expect to run 30-35 miles (over 4-5 runs) per week in peak mileage weeks when preparing for a marathon. You should be able to run six miles non-stop before attempting a marathon training program.
Sometimes, life happens. We will place your program “on hold” until you return. While you’re away from training, you are credited for any unused weeks and your billing begins again when you decide to return. Because our coaching roster fills up from time to time, we’ll also save a spot for you when you are able to return.
Of course! Our coaching roster contains athletes of all abilities and, while many of our runners are not competing to win their respective races or their age groups, they still desire coaching guidance. We will provide you with both the knowledge and framework of your program as well as the encouragement for you to succeed.
The questionnaire is quite long but the more we know about you at the outset, the better equipped we will be to get you started with your training. Specificity of training is paramount to an improvement in running fitness, therefore, getting to know you is critical. No two clients are exactly alike and where we feel we add value is to customize training not only to your current fitness and your ability but also to your schedule and needs as a individual. Each segment of the questionnaire contains valuable information to help us better understand your needs and expectations. Upon submission, we will contact you via email to suggest how we might begin together.
No. While our coaches have competed as a triathletes and paced private clients through triathlons – we are not multi-sport coaches. Coach Gary has served as a coaching assistant for the JackRabbit Sports (NYC) triathlon training program, and he is happy to help multi-sport athletes with their running. However, running remains his focus as a coach. If you require a comprehensive triathlon training program including all three disciplines simultaneously (swimming, biking, running) we would suggest hiring Jonathan Cane of City Coach, a qualified multi-sport specific coach.
Indeed. While our roster of athletes represents a full range of running talent and experience – fast clients are welcome here. For instance, there are currently elite runners on our client roster seeking Olympic Trials qualifying standards. In fact, our coaching colleague, Bobby, has qualified for the Olympic Trials in distances ranging from the 5k to the marathon. In the past we’ve had clients finish in the top of their age group, others who have won their age group or have won races outright.
There are no contracts. You may begin or end Private Coaching at any time. As a courtesy, the first month of Private Coaching will be prorated to your start date while the final month of Private Coaching will conclude on the last calendar day of the month of cancellation. For example, a cancellation request for the month of October, sent on September 15 would conclude on October 31st.
Yes, our team of lawyers tell us that the waiver is mandatory. A signed WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNIFICATION is required by all clients of GB Running, LLC prior to activation of any services and before training may begin.
